EXHIBITION QUALITIES:

Silver-Laced Wyandottes are noted for their unique color and rounded shape. This trim shape has caused them to be called the "bird of curves".

The plumage of the male is usually striking. The hackle is lustrous black with a narrow edging of white. The saddle is white with a black stripe thru each feather. This stripe gives a diamond shape center. The shoulder is white, the wing bar a double row of regular lacing and the flight primaries are black with lower edge of white; the secondaries are black with lower half of outer webs, white with a narrow black edging, wider at the tips with upper webs tipped with white. The fluff is black with and abundance of feathers with white centers, edged with black, which continue down into the hock, the tail feathers, main and sickles are lustrous, greenish black. The breast feathers are white oval centered with distinct black edging. The legs and toes are of a clear orange yellow, with no blemishes. The overall top colour is a beautiful silvery white.

The male bird has fine carriage with head held high. The breast is round and full. The tail is short, well spread at the base and carried at an angle of about 45 degrees. The head has a rose comb with spike, rounded and fitting close to the head. The lobes and wattles are a sharp red and eyes reddish bay.

The female is a study in black and white. The hackle is of a fine black edged with white and blends into the laced saddle and breast. The saddle, wings and breast are evenly laced and uniform in each section. The white centers are oval and large, evenly edged with lustrous, greenish black. The fluff, hock and legs follow the color pattern of the male. The head is short and rounded. The comb is rose, wattles are bright red and the eyes reddish bay.

The shape of the female is round. If a ring were held beside her just large enough to show her body, the breast, under parts and tail would fit in perfectly, with only the head and legs and outer tail protruding. The back is gently sloping. The appearance is one of softness and grace.

UTILITY QUALITIES

The remarkable increasing demand for Silver-Laced Wyandottes is most gratifying. It demonstrates beyond question that Silver-Laced Wyandottes have utility value as well as beauty. The egg laying and reproducing qualities of many four and five year old hens are equal to those of yearlings. Their early maturity is of decided value in marketing and egg production. They lay good sized, dark shelled egg of excellent uniform quality. For table use Silvers have a large amount of fine textured and sweetly flavoured meat that is unexcelled.

To the one that is looking for a breed to make financial success, Silver-Laced Wyandottes fill the want in an unusual way. Today we do not have enough breeders who have quality and quantity Silver-Laced Wyandottes to fill ever increasing demand for stock, baby chicks and eggs. Real opportunity knocks at the door. If you are looking for a breed that will provide daily enjoyment and pleasure and one that will show a handsome profit, then start keeping Silver- Laced Wyandottes.
