He crossed bantam genes with utility white leghorn lines, & after 17 generations of selection, delivered a small framed bird of 1.3-1.4 Kg. laying a 60-65 gm white egg at the commercial rate of 350 eggs a year. He also achieved a feed reduction of 30%, as most of the feed cost went into egg production, rather than maintaining the frame of the bird. A prolific layer, the Stanhope White Leghorn is non broody & ideal for suburban back yards. |
